Scholarship, Pirate Pride Bench, and Other Donations
from the
Charlestown High School Class of 1961

Scholarship

The CHS Class of '61 has raised a significant amount of money for a scholarship to be presented to a deserving CHS senior who will graduate in 2011. Academic achievement is the most important goal in high school, and by providing the scholarship, our class asserts that we value greatly the academic side of high school. A goal of $2,000 was set for the scholarship, and we have already exceeded that goal! As of March 10, 2011, the scholarship fund stands at $2,300.

Pirate Pride Bench

As a lasting memorial to our 50th reunion, the CHS Class of '61 donated $1995 for the placement of a granite bench in the Pirate Pride Way of the Alumni Garden at the new CHS. Pirate Pride Way is a fundraiser for the CHS Pirate Pride Booster Club, and the sale of memorial benches and bricks goes toward that effort. Athletics played an important role in our time in high school, and the bench will remind us of the many hours of training and enjoyment we took from athletic activities, either as team members or fans.

Donations in Support of the 50th Reunion

Many of our classmates have given money to support the cost of the 50th reunion, and we are really grateful for that. It will help keep down the price of the ticket to the banquet and dance.

It's not too late to donate! Donations will still be accepted, either to increase the size of the scholarship or to help offset the costs of the reunion itself. Checks should be made out to "CHS Class of '61 50th Reunion" and sent to:

Gary Wiggins
2003 S. High Street
Bloomington, IN 47401.

Please indicate clearly on your check or in a note whether to use the money for: Scholarship or Reunion expenses.
